China Airlines and Korean Air yesterday inaugurated a new codeshare cooperation, on services between Taipei and Seoul. Currently, China Airlines operates nine flights per week from Taipei to Seoul, and Korean Air operates the same number of flights per week between the two cities.
Under the codeshare, passengers holding CI or KE tickets can fly on either airline, giving them 18 choices each week, and making travel between Taipei and Seoul much more convenient.
To celebrate the codeshare cooperation, the two airlines jointly held a celebration party in Taipei. The event was hosted by Mr. Su-Chien Hsieh, China Airlines' Vice President of the Taiwan Area, and Mr. Hyo Taek Choe, Regional Manager of the Korean Air regional office in Taipei. The party was attended by about 200 people, including local tourism operators and media representatives.
With the launch of the codeshare service, the two airlines can use their resources more efficiently, and passengers traveling between Taiwan and Korea can enjoy more choice and flexibility, as they arrange their business or leisure trips.
China Airlines and Korean Air have also launched a joint cooperation on transfer services from Taipei, via Seoul, to seven destinations in mainland China: Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Tianjin, Shenyang, Wuhan and Jinan. This will provide passengers another option for traveling to northern China, in addition to transferring through Hong Kong. The two carriers are now discussing a joint mileage program cooperation.
