China will continue to have two week-long national holidays to boost consumer spending, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

There has been talk in recent months to cancel the week-long vacations in order to diminish the strain on China's travel resources.

The two seven-day holidays in May and October referred to as golden weeks" were introduced in 1999, and have brought in 429.2 billion yuan ($52.9 billion) in tourism revenue over the past seven years.

1.1 billion Chinese have traveled domestically and overseas during the past 14 holidays, the news report said.
