China's budget air service provider Spring Airlines has been sending a series of short messages recently to passengers telling them not to take their own food, particularly nuts with shells, on board Spring Airline's flights.
Spring Airlines is the first airline in China that has ever made such a rule.
The company also says it will no longer provide free mineral water for passengers because many passengers leave the bottles unopened and unused. Spring Airlines says it is doing so to help lower the operation cost.
Liu Dan, a spokesperson from Spring Airlines, says the company has been obliged to make these rules because they are receiving more complaints about the trash in the cabin, which has been mostly caused by food taken by passengers onboard. For example many passengers bring sunflower seeds and then leave the shells littered on the floor.
