A representative from the Western Development Office of the State Council says that China is planning to construct four international railways during the Eleventh Five-Year Period.

In southwest China, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway will be extended south to India where it will be linked with the railway network there.

In northwest China, a railway will be built to connect the Xinjiang Autonomous Region with Russia.

In the northeast, the Huichun-Dongning railway will be built to link with other railways in Russia.

And in Yunnan, a railway will be constructed to connect China with India and Burma.
