Beijing South Railway Station Closed For Renovation

The Beijing Railway Board says that the Beijing South Railway Station will be closed to trains and passenger in mid-May this year when a reconstruction project begins.

The Board says that by that time, all the trains that used to run through the station will be transferred to Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing Railway Station and Beijing North Railway Station.

The whole investment of the reconstruction is said to be about RMB6.3 billion, and reconstruction work is expected to be completed in 2007.

The new station will be 500 meters away from the old one. Occupying 26,000 square meters in space–almost as big as the Beijing West Railway Station.
