Ritz-Carlton Plans Shanghai Opening In 2010

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company announced plans for the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong to be strategically situated on Century Boulevard in the heart of Pudong's Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone.

The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong will be developed and owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, a Hong Kong-based real estate, telecommunications and transportation company that is one of the largest property companies in the world.

With 286 guestrooms and suites, The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong will be situated on the upper floors of a 60-story skyscraper, with spectacular views of the Huangpu River and the Shanghai skyline. The hotel will be part of a mixed-use development designed by Cesar Pelli and Associates, comprising office space, retail and residential apartments.

Scheduled for a 2010 opening, this will be the second hotel in the city for the luxury brand, joining The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai located in Puxi's Shanghai Centre.

Other Ritz-Carlton hotels and resorts currently open or under development in China include Hong Kong, Beijing, Financial Street (2006); Beijing, Guo Hua (2007); Guangzhou (2007), Shenzhen (2008), Hong Kong, Kowloon (2009); and Sanya (2009).

There are few cities in the world which can rival Shanghai for the robustness of the economy and the amount of foreign investment. Currently, Shanghai is home to more than 300 Fortune 500 companies, and it is one of China's most important industrial centers. We look forward to growing our existing partnership with Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited by adding a second Shanghai location in Pudong, and believe The Ritz-Carlton brand will be greatly enhanced by this newest planned development, said Simon F. Cooper, president and chief operating officer.
