The latest data released by the New Zealand Statistics Bureau shows that the number of Chinese tourists visiting New Zealand in April this year reached 9742, exceeding that of Japanese tourists and ranking fourth among all the tourists entering New Zealand.

The largest three inbound tourist countries for New Zealand are Australia, the UK and the U.S.

The data shows that in April, Chinese tourists to New Zealand increased by 42% compared with the same period of last year, but the number of Japanese tourists decreased by 27%.

It is estimated nearly 100,000 Chinese tourists will visit New Zealand in 2006, and the figure will reach nearly 190,000 in 2011.
