The latest survey conducted by online travel service provider Ctrip.com shows that Tibet has become the premier travel destination for Chinese tourists after the launch of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

Of those members polled, 18% say they will choose Tibet for a long-distance domestic travel. Following Tibet are Sanya, Lijiang and Jiuzhaigou as top travel destinations.

The survey also shows that most people postponed their travel plans as a result of the World Cup. As a result, the midseason for travel in China will come at the end of July or early August.

Air China has already added more flights to Lhasa to assist the transport capacity from the newly launched Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

To serve Air China and other airlines, this month Tibet saw the opening of its third airport. Involving a total investment of RMB780 million, Linzhi Airport is one of the key projects within the Tibet Autonomous Region. It passed its final check on April 28, and is expected to accept 120,000 passengers per year.
