Shimao Group will build the first underground 5-star hotel in China.

According to the plan, the 5-star hotel will be built with 300 rooms above the water, and restaurants and cafes will be placed below the water in the pit. The hotel will be located in Sheshan in Shanghai's Songjiang District where there is a large pit that was left by previous mining activities.

Surrounding the hotel, there will also be a large-scale shopping area and an entertainment park.

Shimao Group says that Sheshan is a main scenic spot in the outskirts of Shanghai and the new hotel will be the fourth hotel for the company in Shanghai. Xu Shitan, the executive officer of Shimao Group, said that they are planning to build ten 5-star hotels on the Chinese mainland in the next 3-5 years.
