Travel agencies in Beijing say that eight travel agencies in the city will organize trips to Taiwan once the region is opened to mainland Chinese tourists.
These eight travel agencies are China International Travel Service (CITS), China Travel Service (CTS), China Youth Travel Service (CYTS), China Comfort International Travel Service, BTG Travel, China Women's Travel Service, China Sunrise Travel Service and CITIC Travel Service. They are chosen as the candidates for their large business scale, reception capacity and information.
A representative from a travel agency said that only 1000 tourists each day will be allowed for Taiwan trips when it is launched. At present the detailed share for each travel agency has not been decided, and other details, such as the entry port, transfer place for airline companies, name list management, and visas for Taiwan have not been confirmed.
There are rumored to be 15 travel agencies planning to organize the travel groups to Taiwan. Eight are in Beijing, three in Shanghai and Guangzhou, respectively, and one in Hong Kong. But the China National Tourism Administration has not disclosed anything about this yet.
Meanwhile, the Taiwan tourism industry is also preparing to receive tourists from the mainland. Chang Hsueh-lao, president of the Taiwan Visitors Association, disclosed at CITM 2006 that 200 travel agencies in Taiwan had applied to be reception agencies.
