A new batch of 253 hotels has been approved to offer lodging services during the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
Interestingly, most of these hotels are not high star-rated hotels, and some of them are even budget hotels, like Super 8, Home Inn and several youth hostels.
According to the "Lodging Industry Service Quality Standard and Assessment" issued by Beijing Municipal Tourism Administration, these hotels have reached the correct standard and can receive guests during the Olympic Games period.
At present, there are 4023 non-rated hotels in Beijing which can offer 330,000 beds, and before the Olympic Games, 1000 more hotels will reach the standard to offer a total of 100,000 beds.
It is estimated that Beijing will receive 500,000 overseas guests during the Olympic Games period. At present, Beijing has 286,900 rooms to offer 572,500 beds, which should be enough for the reception. However, due to the lack of high star-rated hotels, the tourism department will adjust the structure of hotel industry in Beijing in 2007.
Beijing Municipal Tourism Administration has already listed Beijing Hotel and Grand Hotel Beijing of BTG as the headquarters for Olympic Games reception in China.
