Many European airlines are cutting costs as they make adjustments to their policies in China.

From January 1, 2007, British Airways will close their direct-sales outlet in Beijing and shift to a general sales agent system. Austrian Airlines is also planning chnages with the cancellation of their Shanghai-Vienna lines.

According to Spanish media, Air Plus Comet from Spain, which cancelled its direct flight between Spain and China at the beginning of 2006, stopped their Madrid-Shanghai line in October 2006, and a Germany-Chongqing line was also stopped after only six weeks of flying.

Swiss International Air Lines also cancelled a number of direct lines to China as a result of the acquisition by Lufthansa Airlines.
