Hong Kong's travel industry has completed their development guideline for the 11th Five-Year Period and the guidelines should be soon released together with the SAR Government's general guidelines.

In their draft guideline, the Hong Kong travel industry offers a series of suggestions for attracting more tourists, including improving cross-border procedures, streamlining traffic, constructing more budget hotels and training more people for the travel industry.

Wong See Sum, director of Hong Kong's Hong Thai Travel Services and a leader of the travel industry guideline drafting team, says that Hong Kong needs to create a system to simplify the pass procedures between mainland China and Hong Kong, and in the meantime it will attract more tourists.

The travel industry guideline drafting team also emphasized the construction of tourism facilities. They hope the government can offer more land access so that they can construct more budget hotels, and they suggested that the government should help them to open more 1-star or 2-star hotels in order to offer cheaper beds to attract FIT tourists from the mainland.

They also hope the HK government can try to get the Chinese Central Government to broaden the aviation limits between Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta area.

Finally, they urge the mainland government to open the travel agency business for them so that they can have more chances to offer training for the travel industry in the mainland.
