Construction for the largest ski resort in Asia is set to begin in Xinjiang's Urumqi in May 2007.
According to Urumqi Municipal Government, the ski area will be located in Gangou Village. The investor of the project, Beijing Pingtian Limited Company, has signed development agreements with the local government for investment of US$200 million.
Occupying 50 square km, it will be the biggest ski resort in Asia, combining sports and leisure, and it is hoped to become a global top-tier ski resort in the next 3-5 years.
The first phase of the project will be completed this November, and then it will be opened for public.
