Chinese officials have promised to promote Cebu tourism in its sister province of Hainan.

Officials from Hainan province have assured Cebu provincial officials they would invest in more projects in the province and promote tourism there.

Liu Jin, deputy director general of the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office in Hainan, said they were hoping to find more opportunities through trade, education, communications and agriculture in Cebu.

"Since Hainan and Cebu have similarities like its climate, we hope to find cooperation especially in the agricultural aspect," Lin said.

Since Hainan has been Cebu's sister province for 10 years, Jin said, they hoped to establish cooperation in education through the promotion of their universities and colleges as well as to establish sister-universities. Jin said that a framework must be created by a joint working group with Cebu province in order to plan specific projects. The eight-man delegation held a bilateral meeting with members of the Cebu Provincial Board to discuss more avenues to strengthen further their provinces' relationships.
