In 2006, the civil airports in Qinghai received and sent more than 760,000 passengers as more travelers chose to arrive and depart the area by air.

Statistics shows that Qinghai Airport company ran 8008 safe flights during the year, received and sent 761,190 passengers, and 9080 tons of cargo.

At present, there are more than 10 Chinese cities that send flights to Xining, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chengdu, Lhasa, Shenzhen and Urumqi. In the mid-season of last summer and autumn, Xining airport received an average of 127 weekly flights.

There are currently two civil airports in Qinghai Province at Xining Airport and Ge'ermu Airport. During the Eleventh Five Year Period, Qinghai province will construct a new airport in Shubatang, and launch lines to Hong Kong and Macau, and introduce an international charter flight business.
