Michel Koopman has been appointed as general manager of the InterContinental Pudong Shanghai and regional general manager of InterContinental Hotels Group in Shanghai.

A native of Holland, Koopman is a graduate of Steigenberger Hotelberufsfachschule, Bad Reichenhall Germany, Higher Hotel School; The Hague Holand; and Cornell University. He began his career as a hotelier in 1984 at the Amsterdam Hilton. In 1990, he joined Hyatt International where he had a successful career, spanning Serbia, Indonesia, Japan and Australia.

Prior to joining the InterContinental Pudong Shanghai, Koopman worked at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne as general manager for the last 5 years.
