Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife took a delegation from the Carter Center to China and were welcomed at Raffles Beijing Hotel . Traditional Chinese handcrafted gifts were presented by Peter Wynne, general manager of the hotel. Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan officially met with President Carter, voicing his hope that China and the United States could further boost their constructive and cooperative relations.
