Guilin's tourism department has announced the founding of the U.S.A. and Guilin Tourism Alliance. This will be the marketing network agent for Guilin's tour products in the North American market, and will recruit American travel agencies who focus on Guilin inbound tours to join the alliance in order to encourage a sustainable and steady development of the American tourist resources market around the city.
According to local media, in the middle of January 2008, Guilin Tourism Bureau ran a series of promotions for Guilin tours in the United States and opened a North American promotion center in San Francisco. It also formed an alliance consisting of several local airlines and travel agencies to jointly expand in the North American market. Prior to this, Guilin had opened similar alliances in some Southeast Asian countries, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
The parties will cooperate to promote Guilin tour products in American media and at travel fairs and public venues. The bureau has also investigated San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and all three cities have reportedly agreed to help Guilin to hold special promotions this year.
In 2007, Guilin welcomed 100,000 American tourists, and this number ranked second place among the city's inbound source markets.
