According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, Chinese tour expenditure is expected to be ranked in second place worldwide in 2008.

A research report from WTTC indicates that in 2007, tourism related expenditure increased by 3.9%, and WTTC estimates that global tour spend will reach a total of EUR5.27 trillion in 2008, with a growth rate of about 3% — a little lower than that of 2007.

WTTC forecasts that in 2008, Chinese tour expenditure will reach approximately US$590 billion, second only to the USA with a worldwide spend of US$1.75 trillion. This will be the first time for China to exceed German tour expenditure which will be US$506 billion in 2008, occupying fourth place. Japanese tour expenditure will be approximately US$514 billion this year, ranked in third place following Chinese.
