Hong Kong International Airport Posts Record Figures

Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong's international airport, has announced that all three categories of traffic recorded double-digit growth in July 2010, a sign of continuing strong summer traffic momentum.

Passenger throughput and aircraft movements were up 17.5% and 14.7% from a year ago, reaching new monthly highs of 4.7 million and 26,720 respectively. Cargo tonnage also jumped 24.5% year-on-year to 363,000 tons during the same period.

Passenger traffic to and from mainland China and South East Asia performed particularly well in July. While overall visitor numbers registered a 29% yearly increase, Hong Kong resident traffic rose 21% compared to July 2009.

In addition, according to the latest report by Airports Council International, HKIA has retained its position as the world's busiest international cargo airport for the 14th consecutive year and handled the world's third largest international passenger volume in 2009.
