The Huangshan Scenic Area Administrative Committee has announced that it plans to invest CNY18.2 billion in establishing the mountain as a top international tourism destination during the 12th "five-year plan" period from 2011 to 2015.
Under the new investment plan, Huangshan Mountain will have 60 major tourism projects and is expected to attract more than 171.2 million tourists.
Developing green travel will be the committee's focus during the next five years.
During the 11th "five-year plan" period from 2006 to 2010, Huangshan received about 10.95 million tourists from home and abroad, 55.3% more than during the previous "five-year plan" period. Fixed-asset investment was about CNY3.84 billion, 448.1% more than the previous "five-year plan" period.
Huangshan is located in southern Anhui province in eastern China. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's major tourist destinations.
