Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Reports Record High Figures

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has reported that the number of flight departures and landings in 2010 had increased to 37,131 in the summer, up 7.66% from the previous year.

The airport said passenger traffic at the airport hit a record 4.95 million during the period, with the daily average number of passengers standing at 79,000.

August 1, 201 marked the busiest day at Shuangliu Airport. The number of aircraft departures and landings was 654 and the passenger traffic was nearly 90,000 people.

Industry analysts attributed the booming aviation businesses at the airport to the rapid economic growth in Chengdu, the capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, and to the booming tourism market.

In 2009, Shuangliu Airport was the busiest airport in western China and the sixth busiest airport nationwide in terms of passenger traffic, with a total of 22,637,762 passengers being handled. In 2009 Shuangliu Airport was also the sixth busiest airport in China in terms of cargo traffic and the sixth busiest airport in China by traffic movements.
