China Plans Beijing-Taipei Highway

According the draft 12th Five-Year Plan, the national highway network will have two new highways: the Lhasa to Golmud section of the Beijing to Tibet Highway and the Fuzhou to Taipei section of the Beijing to Taipei Highway.

The Fuzhou to Taipei Highway is reported to be part of the Beijing to Taipei Highway, which is a main trunk route in China's national highway plan. The 2,030-kilometer four-lane highway will start from Beijing and terminate in Taipei, passing through Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Fujian.

Currently the Beijing to Taipei Highway has not reached Taipei. The Jian'ou section in Fujian is already open for traffic, and construction started on the Gutian section in 2010. The Fuzhou to Taipei section is still in the planning and research stage according to the draft plan.
