Club Med Launches Greater China Business Unit

Club Med, the France-based resort operator, has announced the launch of its Greater China business unit based in Shanghai which will oversee the markets in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

The newly-established unit will be responsible for all the projects initiated by the company in the China, and will reinforce its partnership with Fosun International Limited, which holds a 7.1% stake in Club Med.

In the meantime, the Club Med China unit will operate the Club Med Resort village projects in the country.

Last year the company opened an ice and snow-themed resort village in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, and it plans to establish five resorts in the country by 2015 and host more than 200,000 Chinese guests each year.

The company said China is expected to become its second-largest market after France.
