The Holiday Inn Vista Shanghai has reached out to help local children suffering from leukemia through a unique fundraiser.
At the hotel on Changshou Road, 24 staff members had their heads shaved at a Shave to Save charity party. More than 70,000 yuan (US$8,434) was raised to be donated to a special leukemia treatment found of the Shanghai Charity Foundation.
Most leukemia sufferers lose their hair from the severe chemical treatment, said newly shorn hotel general manager Darwin Yan. Our bald heads show our support in their flight against this fatal disease.
Mr. Yan said the hotel opened on August 11 last year and to celebrate its first anniversary, the hair-shaving was memorable way for raising funds for an underprivileged minority group of kids.
With more people willing to donate marrow, Mr. Yan said the number of the kids who can receiver transplants will increase. He hoped more companies and employees could lend a hand.
