Author Jostein Gaarder and his wife were greeted by Stephen J. Alexander, the general manager of the Howard Johnson Plaza Shanghai, upon arrival to the hotel. The Norwegian author became an acclaimed author after his book "Sophie's World" became the world's top bestseller in 1995. He is visiting China to promote the Chinese translation of his novel "Maya".
