Shangai's mayor Han Zheng has told local media that Shanghai is fully qualified to build a Disneyland Park and is waiting for approval from the central government and the State Council.

Han says that Shanghai has long wanted to build a Disneyland, but it is yet unknown when the construction can begin.

Han also says that he hopes that Shanghai Disneyland will work in cooperation with the one in Hong Kong under the framework of CEPA.

This is the first time that the Shanghai Municipal Government has given a direct response to the rumor regarding a themed Disney park to be built in China.
