Gao Siren, a National People's Congress delegate from Hong Kong, has disclosed to the media that from June 1, five more cities in the mainland will be allowed to offer trips to Hong Kong and Macao.

This means that up to 200 million more mainland people will be able to go in and out of Hong Kong without any limitation, which will be a great stimulus to the region's economic development.

The total number of Chinese cities that offer travel service to Hong Kong and Macao currently stands at 38.

According to Gao, thanks to both the One Country, Two System policy and CEPA, the cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland has increased.

Gao says that during the 11th Five-Year Period, with the support of the central government plus the various advantages of the region, Hong Kong will no doubt grasp every opportunity to upgrade its international image and position and maintain a long-term prosperity.
