Air China's Zhang Chunzhi says that starting October this year, International Air Transport Association (IATA) will stop issuing paper tickets to flight agents.
According to Zhang, Air China sold 4.2 million e-tickets in 2005, which was 20% of all the tickets it issued. But the rate went up to 40% in the first quarter of this year.
At present, air tickets issued by IATA have taken up 70% of the market, of which 20%-25% are e-tickets.
IATA targets to issue all tickets in electronic format by 2007. However, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) says that e-tickets will only account for 50% of the market share in China in 2007.
