In the first six months of 2006, Tibet received 591,200 inbound and domestic tourists, and made a total travel income of RMB516 million.

According to the latest statistics of the Lhasa Municipal Tourism Bureau, after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was launched, the tourists to Tibet have doubled from that of the same period last year. From July 1 to July 6, Tibet received 78,000 tourists, which was an increase of 46% from the same period in 2005.

Local Tibet media forecast that Tibet will receive more than 2 million tourists in the latter half of 2006.
