The Standing Committee of the People's Congress has approved Hong Kong SAR to set up an entry port in Shenzhen.

Hong Kong's legislation department will cooperate with Shenzhen counterparts to manage the port and prevent any possible crimes at the port.

Ambrose SK Lee, director general of Hong Kong Security Bureau, said that he was very glad that the Congress has approved them to manage the Shenzhen port, which is expected to further improve the trade relations between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Hong Kong SAR Government and Shenzhen Government will work out a series of agreements covering law, quarantine, entry and customs check for the port.

The Shenzhen port will be divided in two parts: Hong Kong Area and Shenzhen Zone. The new Hong Kong entry port will be located at Shenzhen Bay Bridge, which will be launched for use in the middle of 2007. The port can accept 60,000 people and automobiles, respectively, per day.
