Chongqing Municipality Mayor Wang Hongju and Tibet Autonomous Region Chairman Xiang Baping have signed a framework agreement on strengthening the economic cooperation and travel exchanges between the two regions.

Part of the agreement is for them to support the formation of an airport link between Lhasa Airport and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport to enable Chongqing to become a second air passage for entering Tibet.

According to the agreement, Chongqing and Tibet will work together to promote the development of the air transportation in the two regions and to create a favorable condition for launching a Chongqing-Lhasa flight as well as flight operations to other cities in Tibet, including Lizhi.

In the meantime, Chongqing Airport will actively present joint flight transfer products to Lhasa and set up a special transfer hall and green channel for passengers who are going to visit Tibet. Chongqing Airport will help Lhasa Airport train staff and offer it other necessary technology and equipment. In return, Lhasa Airport will coordinate with the Chongqing side on the flight transfer procedures and other travel related services.

Zhao Jiangping, president of Chongqing Airport Group, says that they will try to make their flights to Tibet reach daily 10 by next year as a preparation for building this second air passage.
