With the travel industry of Guizhou Province warming up, the province has begun to expand Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport to meet increasing needs.

The first phase of the expansion project, which involves a total investment of RMB120 million, has already begun. The project includes extending the runway and expanding the aircraft parking area.

So far, the expansion for the parking area has been finished, with two more parking areas added for two large-scale planes and six mid-scale planes. The runway will be extended from the current 900 meters to 3200 meters and the construction of it is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

At present, Guiyang Longdongbao Airport receives 130 planes and 11,000 passengers every day, and their passenger number is estimated to reach 3.7 million this year, which is an increase of 20% from last year. The airport was elevated to an international airport in January 2006.
