Hainan Airlines has ordered 6 additional 737-800 systems to be installed as BFE (Buyer Furnished Equipment) during 2005. The performance of an initial batch of 5 Boeing 737-800 Blended Winglet Systems, in service now, has convinced Haikou, China based Hainan Airlines that Aviation Partners Boeing(R) Blended Winglet Technology saves fuel and the environment. In an agreement signed today, Hainan Airlines also has an option to purchase an additional 5 Blended Winglets Systems for installation on its future 737-NG Boeing aircraft.
We're proud that Hainan Airlines — our first Blended Winglet operator in China — is now the first operator in that country to come back and order more, says Aviation Partners Boeing CEO Mike Marino. A continual expansion of our presence in Asia is key to our long-range strategy in providing the fuel savings and environmental friendly benefits of Blended Winglet Technology worldwide.
Hainan Airlines is already saving over 130,000 gallons of fuel per aircraft per year (a 4% block hour fuel savings) thanks to the unique and revolutionary benefits of patented* Blended Winglet Technology. On a per flight basis, the airline is reporting fuel savings of 100 kilograms (220 pounds) per hour for each of its 5 existing Blended Winglet Equipped 737-800s.
In addition to dramatic fuel savings, made possible with Aviation Partners Boeing's revolutionary Visible Technology, Hainan Airlines is enjoying measurable environmental benefits, and reduced engine maintenance costs with its growing Blended Winglet Enhanced fleet.
As part of the overall environmental benefits of Blended Winglet Technology, operators experience decreased engine emissions as well as measurable reductions in takeoff noise, says Aviation Partners Boeing Sales Director Craig McCallum. Our technology improves both takeoff and climb performance, provides rock solid handling qualities and offers additional fuel margin reserves on all flights.
