Local media report that Beijing will ban the use of amenities in ordinary hotels by 2008 because they are a great waste of resources and harmful to the environment.

Reports also quote officials as saying they hope luxury hotels in Beijing will follow suit and also not provide unnecessary amenities to hotel guests.

Instead, hotels will be encouraged to only provide amenities to guests upon request. For example the bedsheets, slippers and combs won't be changed every day, and the toothbrush, toothpaste and other cleaning things won't be provided unless guests request them.
