According to the prediction for China's civil aviation market in the coming 20 years made by the China Aviation Industry Corp I (AVIC I), China's aviation industry will see an annual growth rate of 11% in cargo transport volume in the coming 20 years, with freight volume estimated to reach 57.9 billion ton kilometers in 2024.

China's air passenger traffic volume in the coming 20 years is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 8.4%, with the country's air passenger traffic volume projected to hit 890.2 billion person kilometres in 2024.

In consideration of passenger and cargo traffic growth and decommission of aircraft in service at present, China needs to increase its fleet by 2,541 civil passenger planes in the coming 20 years, including 77 400-seat planes, 250 300-seat planes, 338 200-seat planes, 802 150-seat planes 276 110-seat planes and 798 feeder planes.

The forecast does not cover airlines in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
