The China National Tourism Administration has released a report which shows there are now 20,000 scenic spots in China.

The report, titled China Scenic Spots Development Report 2005, was just released during the first China Tourism Investment Symposium.

The report says that in January 2005, China had 20000 scenic spots around the country, of which 1401 are A Grade; 177 are state-level key places of historical interest; 565 are state-level forestry areas; 105 are national geographic gardens; 306 are demonstrative sites for agricultural travel; and 31 are listed on the World Heritage List.

Zhang Jilin, deputy director of the China National Tourism Administration, said at the Symposium that China is doing well at building its sightseeing-oriented travel, but it still needs to improve conditions for holiday travel and special travel areas.
