The newly opened Westin Beijing, Financial Street anchors the activities in the area and is poised to ride the growth expected of this zone.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Originally from Malaysia, Charlie Dang is the General Manager of the Westin Beijing, Financial Street. He has been working with Starwood for eight years, and prior to this post he was General Manager at the Sheraton Dongguan for three years and another three years with Sheraton Xian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How is Westin Beijing positioning itself in the local hotel market?<\/strong><br \/>\nWestin beijing is an upscale international hotel, managed by Starwood. Being the innovator of the industry, Westin is famous for its Heavenly Bed, Westin WorkOut, Westin Heavenly Crib, Service Express, Westin Kids Club and newly launched Westin Heavenly Spa. We also have a unique unwind ceremony, an evening ritual, to calm the mind of our guests. Two Tai Chi masters present a very relaxing performance that has wowed our guests already.<\/p>\n<p>We are very happy to present these signature facilities and services in our hotel to travelers and Beijing residences. Westin Beijing is more than a hotel, it is a destination where guests are understood and feel that this is a place where they say \"I can be at my best.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>What sort of changes have you implemented since taking over in your new position?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe were fortunate to be part of the process of evolution on all Westin signature products and services which is being launched worldwide by Westin Hotels &#038; Resorts. All the new initiatives evolve around Westin core values: personal, instinctive and renewal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does Westin train and retain its staff?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have a wonderful \"Starwood Care\" culture, and our vision is to create emotional connections where associates are inspired to be at their best.\u00a0 A series of training programs for every associate are planned to provide them with a better foundation and platform of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What advice could you give to others just beginning their journeys in the hospitality sector?<\/strong><br \/>\nOne should ask questions all the time and understand all that one is doing and been asked to do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you see Beijing's hotel sector developing in the next 5 years?<\/strong><br \/>\nBeijing will continue to develop and grow before and after the Olympic Games 2008.
