Cathay, which is Hong Kong's de facto flag carrier, will also be allowed to add seven new flights a week to Beijing beginning next summer <\/p>\n<p>Being able to operate a daily service to Beijing is welcome, yet still a small entry into the market, Cathay's chief operating officer, Philip Chen, said in a statement issued late Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Under the new Hong Kong-China aviation deal, Cathay also won rights to fly three times a week to Xiamen _ a service it plans to start up in December _ and it will begin flying cargo services to Shanghai next year. But the pact prevents Cathay from flying passenger services to Shanghai for at least two years.
