Over the next seven days, Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts will host 120 of Asia Pacific's top professional golfers as they vie for the coveted title and US$200,000 in prize money. Also walking the fairways will be hundreds of business people and golf enthusiasts who will take part in the Professional-Amateur challenge events.<\/p>\n
Crowne Plaza Open Shanghai 2004 starts with the InterContinental Hotels Groups Corporate Challenge on October 19 and the Priority Club Rewards Challenge on October 20. These two days are dedicated to InterContinental Hotels Group's business partners, hotel General Managers, and elite members of Priority Club Rewards, who have gathered at Shanghai's exclusive Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club, the city's world-class championship golf club.<\/p>\n
The first round of the professional tournament begins on October 21 with players from the Top 40 of the CPGA, the Top 60 of the Asian Tour and the Top 20 of the Taiwan PGA Tour. The stellar lineup of top players includes Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant, winner of multiple Asian Tour events and the 2001 Volvo Masters of Malaysia, China's Shang Lei, the CPGA Jinhua Xian Classic Champion 2003 and Li Chao, the Champions of the CPGA Zhangjiagang Twin Mountain classic 2003. Other countries, including Australia, Myanmar, Singapore and Taiwan are also well represented.<\/p>\n
The professional tournament culminates in a grand finale on October 24, when the first Crowne Plaza Open Shanghai 2004 title champion will be named.<\/p>\n
This is the first time in China that a hotel brand is taking on the title sponsorship of a professional golf tournament by the Asian Tour and CPGA.<\/p>\n
