More than 300 star-grade hotels in more than 30 Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, and Chongqing have agreed to defer their checkout times in a campaign proposed by Ctrip.com.
Most of hotels have deferred their checkout time to 14:00, and some even to 15:00 or 16:00. The campaign will last for two months until July 31, 2009.
According to normal conventions, guests can only check in after 14:00 and must check out before 12:00, or payment of a half-day room rate will be needed. However, in actual situations many guests on business trips would probably arrive late at a hotel and check out before 12:00, which means they have to pay full the price for only half a day's stay in the hotel. This has been a cause of complaint by guests for some time.
