CNTA Unveils Domestic Travel Agency Revenues

The China National Tourism Administration has unveiled the annual renewal result of domestic travel agencies for 2007.

As of the end of 2007, there were 19,720 travel agencies around China, including 1,838 international and 17,882 domestic travel agencies. The top ten provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities with the largest number of travel agencies included Shandong with 1,799, Jiangsu with 1,570, Zhejiang with 1,300, Liaoning with 1,108, Hebei with 1,027, Henan with 991, Guangdong with 961, Shanghai with 829, Beijing with 816, and Hubei with 790. The gross number of travel agencies in these ten areas occupied 56.75% of total number in China.

According to the effective statistic collected from 18,943 travel agencies including 1,797 international and 17,146 domestic travel agencies, in 2007, total revenue of travel agencies in China reached CNY163.93 billion with a growth rate of 16.18% compared to the same period of previous year.

After the comprehensive assessment of travel agencies in eight aspects of business revenue, gross profit, tax payment, foreign exchange settlement, average rate of outside contacts, number of inbound tourists and stay time, number of domestic-organized tourists and stay time, as well as the number of domestic tourists and stay time, there were ten areas ranked the top ten including Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, Yunnan, Liaoning, and Hunan.
