Shanghai Publishes Tourism Complaints For 2008

Shanghai Tourism Administration has published a report on the complaints received by the city's tourism sector in 2008, which shows that 71 travel agencies were subject to complaints from consumers.

Of these, 27 were international travel service providers and 44 were Chinese domestic travel service providers.

The main complaints were made on travel agencies' unilaterally changing scenic spot itineraries or skipping over scenic spots, the poor attitude of drivers of tour buses, tour guides and leaders of tour groups, and substandard food and accommodation service during the trip.

Statistics show that in 2008, there were 64 complaints on outbound travel in Shanghai, a decrease of about 14.7% compared to the same period in the previous year, and the number of complains about domestic travel was 105, which was a decline of 26.5% compared with the previous year.

In 2008, STA and the Shanghai Quality Department co-hosted 87 meetings and helped tourists retrieve losses of up to CNY578,542.
